The preschool stage lays the foundation for the child's future cognitive, emotional, and social development. Fostering a growth mindset during these years is essential so the child can face challenges with strength and confidence.
Praise effort and perseverance. Rather than simply telling them what you think should be done. If they insist on doing something difficult, praise them for behaving bravely despite it. In this way, they will learn that effort has value and that learning requires time and effort.
Encourage curiosity in children. They are curious by nature, so take the opportunity to teach them. Provide them with activities and materials that spark their interest and inspire them to explore and discover their environment. Support their questions and let them find answers together.
Teach them the importance of error; this is achieved by helping children realize that making mistakes is part of the learning process and is not bad. Talk to them about how failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. Celebrate their brave attempts and creative solutions, even if they aren't perfect.
Promoting resilience is paramount in teaching children to face challenges with courage and resilience. Create a safe environment where they can face the failure of their choice (in a good way) and learn to overcome it. Do so without neglecting emotional support and help them develop resilience in the face of difficulties and recover from setbacks.
Observing the adults around children is a good strategy for addressing children's weaknesses and helping them overcome them. As a teacher, having an attitude that encourages learning is very important for continuing students' personal development.
Adopting these strategies in a preschool setting prepares children to face the world with courage, curiosity, and resilience. We lay the foundation for children to acquire a growth mindset that will accompany them throughout their lives, preparing them to develop their full potential and face any challenge.
