The COVA (Choice, Ownership, and Voice) model is proposed as an alternative to traditional didactic models of teaching and learning and can offer solutions to some of the problems identified in these models.
Traditional models can demotivate some students, as they only allow little choice or a personal connection to the content.
COVA Solution: Gives students choices about how, when, and what they learn. This can increase motivation by providing a sense of agency and personal relevance.
COVA emphasizes giving students a meaningful voice in their educational experience. In Educational Technology, this could involve allowing students to decide how digital tools are implemented, providing feedback on their experience, and expressing their preferences in the learning process.
COVA recognizes that students have diverse learning styles and advocates allowing them to learn in the best way for them. Educational technology offers various tools and resources that can adapt to different learning styles, allowing the personalization of the learning process.
By offering students more choice and control over their learning, COVA has the potential to improve their engagement and motivation. When implemented effectively, educational technology can make learning more interactive, engaging, and relevant for students.
